The Hawker 850XP mid-size business jet is a direct descendant of the highly reliable and versatile British Aerospace BAe 125. Improvements in range, fuel economy, and comfort have allowed the 850XP to keep pace with newer competition, and it remains a popular choice among corporate travelers.
The Hawker 850XP has often earned praise for its comfort as it manages to provide the same amenities as bigger and more expensive business jets but in a smaller airframe and at reduced cost. Its 604-cubic-foot stand-up passenger cabin can accommodate up to 8 people. The cabin also has LCD lighting, plush leather swivel chairs with armrests, a 3-person divan, pull-out desks for working or dining, and a fully enclosed aft lavatory. The 45-cubic-foot baggage compartment can even be accessed while in flight, thus eliminating the need for passengers to share space with their luggage in the main cabin.
The Hawker 850XP is also much more aerodynamically efficient than its predecessors. Among the evidences of this improvement are the small nearly-vertical “winglets.” Although they don’t look like much, they actually contribute a great deal to the aircraft’s already remarkable performance. Because of those winglets, climbing time to a cruising altitude of 39,000 feet is reduced by 2 minutes and range is extended by 100 nautical miles.
